Ingredients :
Two pounds of thinly sliced beef sirloin or chuck roast
1 large onion, sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup beef broth
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp red wine vinegar
1 tbsp dried oregano
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (optional, for authentic flavor)
4-6 pita breads or flatbreads
Tzatziki sauce (store-bought or homemade, recipe below)
Toppings: sliced tomatoes, red onion, cucumber, lettuce, and crumbled feta cheese
Homemade Tzatziki Sauce
1 cup Greek yogurt
1 cucumber, grated and drained
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
Method :
Step 1: Prepare the Beef
In the slow cooker, put the thinly sliced meat.
In a small bowl, whisk together beef broth, olive oil, red wine vinegar, oregano, cumin, smoked paprika, black pepper, salt, and cinnamon (if using).
Add the minced garlic and cut onions after pouring the mixture over the meat. Toss to coat evenly.
Step 2: Cook the Beef
Cover and simmer until the meat is cooked and shreds readily, 6–8 hours on low or 3–4 hours on high.
Once cooked, shred the beef using two forks and stir it back into the juices in the slow cooker.
Step 3: Make the Tzatziki Sauce (Optional)
Grated cucumber (squeeze off excess water), lemon juice, fresh dill, chopped garlic, and Greek yogurt should all be combined in a bowl.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
