Hearty, filling, and delicious, this simple homemade loaf is a classic recipe I stole from my grandmother. This old-fashioned favorite combines ground beef, bread crumbs, and baked spices topped with a from-scratch glaze everyone will love. It is easy to prepare, incredibly tender, and keeps its shape like a loaf. The sauce — and it’s made with classic ingredients like ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.
Ingredients:
Meatloaf
2 eggs
1 cup bread crumbs
1 onion, chopped
2 pounds lean hamburger
½ cup milk
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon tomato paste
2 teaspoons minced garlic
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Sauce
½ cup ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Method:
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (170 degrees C). Lightly grease a 6×8 inch loaf pan.
Spread the ketchup over the brown sugar and press it into the prepared loaf pan’s bottom.
In a mixing bowl, mix all remaining ingredients well and shape them into a loaf. Place on top of the ketchup.
Remove from the oven and let it rest a bit before slicing.
